  • Very colorful. A lot of light enters the building through its many windows. Interestingly, the pillars that appear to be marble are not real marble, but of other material painted to resemble marble.

  • The Basilica is located on the southside of Milwaukee. It is designed to be similar to Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome. In the mid 1890’s the Federal Building in Chicago was razed and the material was purchased to be used in construction of Saint Josaphats. More than 500 rail cars were used to bring the material to Milwaukee. It was dedicated in 1901. The intricate artwork is like nothing else in the city. It is on the National Register of Historic places. There is a self guided tour available (at no charge). Parking is available in the rear of the edifice. Everything is handicap accessible.
